Founded in Bologna in 2015, the Transnational Opera Studies Conference (Tosc@) is the preeminent academic conference on opera studies. A biennial gathering, it is designed to unite scholars, artists, practitioners and opera lovers from around the world. The conference foregrounds the excellence and boldness of contemporary research on opera and musical theatre in its broadest sense, embracing historical, theoretical, performance, socio-cultural and interdisciplinary perspectives.
Following successful meetings in Bologna, Bern, Paris, Bayreuth, Lisbon and Cambridge, for the first time Tosca@ moves across the Atlantic to the Americas. We are delighted to invite proposals for TOSC@ Santiago 2027, to be held in Santiago, Chile, from 21 to 23 july 2027. This edition aims to foster scholarly exchange across regions, including perspectives from and about the Global South. The conference will also celebrate the 170th birthday of the Teatro Municipal de Santiago, one of oldest opera houses in Latin America. The conference will be hosted by the Instituto de Música of the Faculty of Arts of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. |
